Professors resort
The Resort itself consists of a land area of 550.000 m2 and was cooperatively purchased and developed in the 60s. It comprises about 150 houses and to this day remains a rare example of human intervention fully incorporated into the natural environment. It is synonymous with innovative architecture, model urban planning, respect to nature and class.
Vourvourou is arguably the most beautiful tourist location of Halkidiki Region and a unique destination, thanks to a rare combination of wonderful sea and lush mountain.
Visitors will be amazed by its lace of beautiful beaches (such as Fava, Karydi, Xifara and Livari to name a few), with their pine flanked sandy coasts and crystal-clear aquamarine waters.
The Bay of Vourvourou has calm waters and is surrounded by a cluster of nine islands, among which the well-known Diaporos, where the strait of “Blue Lagoon” with its green – blue waters and sandy sea bottom is located. Just rent a boat (no license required) from one the numerous boat renting companies and visit this unique place with your friends and family.
In and around the Bay of Vourvourou dozens of isolated and only-accessible-by-sea beaches and inlets are waiting for the visitor to enjoy them. All what is needed for a relaxed and romantic full day field trip are a rented boat, a basket and water.
Summer tourism is very developed in Vourvourou and visitors are offered a wide variety of sea sports and activities such as snorkeling, windsurfing, sailing, standup paddleboarding (SUP), kayak and more.
Vourvourou is decentralized, meaning that there is not a specific center (e.g. a square or a market place) for the visitor, but rather a large number of restaurants, tavernas, supermarkets, convenient shops, cafés, beach bars and night bars which will satisfy everybody’s standards and taste.
Last but not least, a “must” for every visitor is the daily sightseeing cruises to the Mt. Athos peninsula, the holy land of twenty Monasteries of the Eastern Orthodox faith and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just go to the seaside village of Ormos Panagias (10 km from Vourvourou) and book/buy a ticket (ships depart 7/7, early in the morning). During the cruise you will marvel a number of spectacularly built monasteries and learn about their history and monastic traditions. Onboard you can have snacks and drinks and, if lucky, you will get to see dolphins swimming next to the ship!
But Vourvourou is not just the sea. It is also the mountain.
Mt. Itamos is the highest and biggest mountain range of the Sithonia Peninsula, its top rising at approximately 800 meters above sea level. It is a protected NATURA 2000 area. Its flora comprises pines and other conifer trees and its fauna animals such as rabbits, wild pigs, foxes, wolves and jackals.
Mt. Itamos offers a wide range of activities to its visitors, such as birdwatching, hiking, biking and trekking. Driving around is also possible in an off-road vehicle and the view from any of its summits is panoramic and breathtaking: from its Eastern slopes the Toroneos Gulf, the Vourvourou Bay and Mt. Athos and from its Western slopes Neos Marmaras, the Siggitikos Gulf and the Kassandra Peninsula. On a clear day the North Sporades islands are also visible (70 km).
The mountain’s road network is quite extended (dozens of km) and consists of exclusively unpaved dirt or forest roads. Any seasoned sportsman can walk, hike or trek till the very end of the Sithonia Peninsula or to the other side, facing to the West. Local companies rent small jeeps and mountain bikes.
